TraC delivers bike safety training to Roberts Creek, West Sechelt and Madeira Park

LIFECycle was contracted by Transportation Choices Sunshine Coast (TraC) and the School District 46 (SD46) to provide two phases of bike and road safety skills training to grade 4 and 5 students in nine elementary schools on the Sunshine Coast. TraC facilitated this project by obtaining sponsorship from local businesses (Coastal Craft Yachts for year 1, and Howe Sound Pulp and Paper for years 1 and 2) as well as funding from SD46. The first year of training sessions took place between May 17 and 31, 2017 at Langdale, Gibsons, Davis Bay, Kinnickinnik and Halfmoon Bay schools. The second year training took place between March 5 and 16, 2018 at Roberts Creek, West Sechelt and Madeira Park schools. Cedar Grove school opted out of the training. Each class received 45 minutes of inclass instruction on bike and road safety skills followed by 90 minutes of outdoor practical experience riding, learning and using newly acquired skills.
